Tempting though it always is just to relax and savour the serenity and tranquillity of this little haven, an oasis in a time-pressured world – the hotel’s wonderful grounds, cove and gardens offer unlimited opportunity, right on the doorstep for lovely gentle low level country and coastal walking, strolling, and some good mixed (but not too strenuous) walking too.

A great walk to enjoy is the one from the hotel along the coast to the friendly, popular and very attractive little village of Portpatrick, some 5 miles away.

And short drives in all directions open up magnificent walking opportunities for which Galloway and this whole corner of South West Scotland is well known. Coastal and beach walking, low level country walking, great hill walking, rambling (and some scrambling) in the beautiful hills of Galloway – all is possible.
